QUESTION 1 OF 5

A 45-person software company uses a generative AI service to draft customer appointment reminders. It has no AI policy or dedicated AI staff but runs security and privacy reviews. It has moderate risk tolerance and wants to ship quickly.

Which governance approach is MOST appropriate?

  1. A

Appoint a chief AI officer and an external ethics board.

  2. B

Name an accountable executive and add AI use cases to existing reviews.

  3. C

Make ISO/IEC 42001 certification its first AI milestone.

  4. D

Pause new AI features until a formal AI risk framework is adopted.

Answer: B

Governance should fit the organization's size and risk. A small company with a low-stakes use needs someone accountable and AI added to the security and privacy reviews it already runs. The NIST AI RMF is designed to work alongside existing risk practices, not to replace them.

Common questions about the AIGP exam

How close are these questions to the AIGP exam?

Close in difficulty: they are written at the level of the AIGP exam and to its official topics, so you are not practising on questions easier or harder than the ones you will sit. They are not questions taken from the exam, and each one comes with an explanation.

How many AIGP practice questions are free?

30 of the 400. The first 5 need no signup; a free account unlocks the rest.

How many questions are on the AIGP exam, and how long is it?

100 multiple-choice questions in 165 minutes of testing time: 85 scored and 15 unscored. Some are scenario-based, and some are multi-select with no partial credit, so count before you answer: one right option plus one wrong one scores zero. With the 15-minute break midway, plan for about three hours in the seat.

What is the AIGP passing score?

300, on a scale of 100 to 500. IAPP converts your number of correct answers to that scale, so 300 is not a percentage. There is no minimum score per topic.

How much does the AIGP exam cost?

$799 for non-members, or $649 for IAPP members on a first attempt. A retake costs non-members $625.

When am I ready to book the AIGP?

When you can pass a full timed mock at the real pace: 100 questions in 165 minutes, a little over a minute and a half each. Scenario questions take longer, so find out how you pace before the exam does. A retake costs non-members $625 and cannot be sooner than 7 days after your last attempt. Our readiness score tracks this as you practice. See how we decide you’re ready.

Are there any prerequisites for the AIGP?

No. IAPP states there are no prerequisites for the AIGP credential.

I have a CIPP. Will the AIGP be easy?

Not on that alone. Privacy law is one part of Domain II, which covers laws, standards and frameworks in 19–23 questions. Governing AI development and governing AI deployment and use are 42–50 questions between them, and that is where most of the exam sits.

How many questions come from each AIGP topic?

IAPP publishes a range per topic, not a percentage. Under Body of Knowledge v2.1, effective 2 February 2026: foundations of AI governance 16–20 questions, laws, standards and frameworks 19–23, governing AI development 21–25, and governing AI deployment and use 21–25. See the AIGP study guide.

Are these questions written for the 2026 AIGP blueprint?

Yes. They follow Body of Knowledge v2.1, effective 2 February 2026, and its four domains. Older AIGP material was written for a seven-domain exam that no longer exists, so check the version of anything else you study from.

Where do I take the AIGP, and in what language?

At a Pearson VUE test centre or online through Pearson VUE OnVUE, in English only. You book through MyIAPP and must sit the exam within one year of buying it. A retake can be no sooner than 7 days after your last attempt.

How long does the AIGP certification last?

Two years, starting the day after you pass. To renew, you complete 20 CPE hours per two-year term, and either pay the maintenance fee or hold an active IAPP membership.
