Security and Compliance is 30%, which surprises almost everyone. It's the second-biggest domain, ahead of the one people spend all their time on. If you're studying by watching service overview videos, you're loading up on the 34% and starving the 30%. The shared responsibility model alone is worth more marks than most people give it.

Billing at 12% looks skippable. It isn't, because it's the most learnable 12% on the exam. Support plans, pricing models, and the cost tools are finite, factual, and they show up. People routinely lose these marks because "billing is boring" and then miss the pass by a handful of questions.

How many practice questions should you do before the exam?

Enough to have seen every domain reworded several ways, which in practice means a few hundred rather than a few dozen.

The reason isn't volume for its own sake. AWS rewords constantly, and the exam checks whether you understand how the pieces fit rather than whether you've seen a question before. A question you can answer in one phrasing and miss in another means you recognized the wording, not the concept. You only find those gaps by meeting the same idea in different clothes, which is what a big bank gives you and a 60-question sample doesn't.

There are 717 questions in the free set, which is more than you need. That's fine. You're not trying to finish it, you're trying to stop being surprised.

What score should you hit before booking?

The pass mark is 700 out of 1000. Aim to clear it comfortably under timed conditions, not once by a point.

A single good score on questions you've already seen tells you very little. Two things are worth more: scoring above the line on a timed mock made of questions you haven't practised recently, and being able to say why the wrong options are wrong. If you can only pick the right answer without being able to fault the other three, you're on recognition, and recognition is exactly what gets punished when the wording shifts.

Practice with the clock on before you book. The 90 minutes is not tight for most people, but discovering your pacing on exam day is an avoidable stress.

How to use a practice exam so it actually teaches you

Answering questions is the easy part. The value is in what you do with the ones you got wrong.

Read the explanation on every question, including the ones you got right. A right answer for the wrong reason is a fail waiting for a reworded question. This is the single biggest difference between practice questions and a dumps PDF: a dump gives you a letter, and a letter teaches you nothing.

Practice mode first, then mock exam mode. Practice mode shows the explanation after each answer, so you're learning as you go. Mock exam mode is timed and scored against the real format, so you use it to check readiness, not to learn.

Then run Fix mistakes. It requeues only the questions you got wrong, so your second pass is spent entirely on your gaps instead of on the material you already know. Most of the actual improvement happens here. Working through 717 questions once and never revisiting the misses is the most common way people waste a good question bank.

Flag anything you guessed. A lucky guess looks identical to knowledge in your score and nothing like it in the exam room.
