The last thing I did before leaving JPMC was sit the Claude Certified Architect – Professional exam. I passed on my first attempt and [wrote briefly about it](https://craig-guanyi-li.medium.com/passing-ccar-p-what-enterprise-ai-taught-me-about-architecture-496e433d72c0). Since then, people keep asking me whether it was worth it.

It was. If you can book one, book it.

## It isn't as technical

I've done several AWS certifications, so I went in ready to recall services, limits and parameters. Almost none of that came up.

Very few questions asked _how_ to do something with Claude. Most asked _whether_, and _which_. Should this be in the Claude app, a scheduled Cowork task, Claude Code, or a custom agent on the Agent SDK? Does it need an agent at all, or will a good prompt do? Where does a human stay in the loop?

Most of the options would work. A custom agent would work. So would a prompt. You're choosing the one that fits the cost, the risk, the security policy and the team that has to run it. Know every API detail and you can still get it wrong by reaching for the most powerful tool.

That's the right thing to test. In an enterprise, picking the wrong tool is a far more common failure than using the right tool badly.

## Is the Claude Certified Architect worth it?

Yes, and of the four, the [Claude Certified Architect – Professional](https://certmadeeasy.com/claude-certification/certified-architect-professional) is the most worth it. It felt like real work. It's about integration, governance and evaluation, the same things that decided whether a project succeeded at JPMC.

You don't need Foundations first. If designing agent systems is new to you, [start there](https://certmadeeasy.com/claude-certification/certified-architect). If you already own integration and governance, go straight to Professional. [All four exams compared](https://certmadeeasy.com/claude-certification).

## Do employers care about Claude certification?

The ones doing Claude work for clients care a lot. A firm's level in Anthropic's partner network depends partly on how many certified people it has, and the top level needs at least 1,000 ([Anthropic](https://www.anthropic.com/news/services-track-partner-hub)). So partner firms certify their people in bulk. In October, Anthropic said people at 46,000 firms had earned more than 175,000 Claude certifications ([Anthropic](https://www.anthropic.com/news/claude-frontier-academy)).

Outside partner firms, it's still early. Most job ads that mention Claude don't ask for the certification yet. When I went through the first 15 Claude jobs on Indeed, none did. But it has started. On 25 October 2026 I found 24 US job ads asking for one, at employers including Deloitte and Samsung, and Accenture and Capgemini ask for it in their own ads in the UK and Europe.

## Two questions people ask me

### Which Claude certification is in demand?

Nobody can say yet. So few job ads name a specific Claude exam that there's nothing to rank. From what I see, the Professional exam stands out more than the three Foundations ones, but all four are getting more recognition.

### Are Claude certifications valuable?

Most of all to people at partner firms, where certified headcount decides the firm's tier. Outside them, the value is that the exam checks the judgement clients pay for, even before most job ads ask for it.

## What I'd tell you

I work with a lot of companies, from large enterprises to small startups, and in almost all of them AI work is moving out of engineering. It happened to software first. Now marketers build entire 'Business OS' and other systems that multiply productivity of entire departments.

Indeed's job ads show the same shift. In 2025, the share of sales, HR and legal ads that mention AI doubled.

![Share of US job postings mentioning AI, January vs December 2025, by occupational group, sorted by relative change: Sales 2.9% to 5.9% (+103%); Human Resources 4.4% to 8.8% (+100%); Legal 4.3% to 8.3% (+93%); Marketing 8.4% to 14.9% (+77%); Project Management 4.3% to 7.4% (+72%); Electrical Engineering 7.1% to 12.1% (+70%); Industrial Engineering 12.0% to 18.7% (+56%); IT Infrastructure Operations & Support 8.7% to 13.4% (+54%); Accounting 4.2% to 6.0% (+43%); Software Development 28.5% to 39.7% (+39%); Banking & Finance 7.3% to 10.1% (+38%); Media & Communications 7.0% to 9.4% (+34%); Scientific Research & Development 16.0% to 20.7% (+29%); IT Systems & Solutions 20.9% to 24.7% (+18%); Data & Analytics 38.8% to 44.9% (+16%). Non-tech groups are highlighted.](https://certmadeeasy.com/claude-certification/worth-it/chart-b-ai-job-ads.png)

_Source: [Indeed Hiring Lab](https://hiringlab.indeed.com/2026/01/22/january-labor-market-update-jobs-mentioning-ai-are-growing-amid-broader-hiring-weakness/), 22 January 2026._

I should say where my bias comes from. I'm about as AI-native as people get, and so is almost everyone I work with. Pretty much everyone around me uses Claude in one form or another, every day. To me, knowing how to use it well feels like knowing how to use a computer in the '90s.

It isn't only my circle, either. Since May 2026, more US businesses on Ramp pay Anthropic than pay OpenAI.

![Share of US businesses on Ramp paying Anthropic and OpenAI, monthly, July 2023 to September 2026. Anthropic rose from 0.15% to 43.77%; OpenAI rose from 24.49% to a peak of 41.13% in November 2025 and was 40.63% in September 2026. Anthropic first passed OpenAI in May 2026, 40.70% vs 39.32%.](https://certmadeeasy.com/claude-certification/worth-it/chart-c-ramp-anthropic-openai.png)

_Source: [Ramp AI Index](https://ramp.com/data/ai-index), data through September 2026, read 25 October 2026._

So when people ask whether the certification is worth it, my answer is yes. It checks whether you know which way to use Claude for which team, and that's becoming a basic part of a lot of jobs. If you can sit it, sit it.

## Five AI models beat me.

Out of curiosity, I ran five AI models on 114 practice questions. All five scored above 95%. I scored 93%.

I don't count that against the certification. An exam question hands you a tidy scenario with every fact you need and four options. In real work, nobody hands you that. You piece it together from a business owner who thinks they know the problem, operators who know what actually breaks, developers who know what the codebase can take, and an infrastructure team with constraints nobody mentioned. The exam checks that you'd pick well once the question is clear. The job is getting it clear.

I write for Cert Made Easy, which makes practice questions for these exams.
