# Claude Certified Architect – Professional (CCAR-P): exam facts and how to prepare

The Claude Certified Architect – Professional certification (CCAR-P, sometimes written CCARP) is Anthropic's professional-level Claude architect certification. It tests whether you can take a Claude system from discovery to production: design, integration, evaluation, governance and the conversations with stakeholders around them. Only people at Claude Partner Network companies can register.

## CCAR-P exam at a glance

- Questions are multiple-choice or multiple-response. A multiple-response question tells you how many answers to pick.
- The exam is proctored and closed book, through Pearson VUE online or at a Pearson VUE test centre: no notes, translation tools or AI assistants. It is offered in English and Japanese.
- Scoring runs from 100 to 1,000 against a fixed standard, not a curve. Your score report also shows your percentage correct in each domain; only the overall score decides the result.
- The official guide has three sample questions with explanations, in Section 8. They are not from the live exam.

## CCAR-F vs CCAR-P

What Professional adds over Foundations: CCAR-F tests whether you can design a Claude system, and CCAR-P whether you can carry one from discovery to production, with the integration, evaluation, governance and stakeholder work that takes.

## Do you need CCAR-F before CCAR-P?

No. The guide states there are no mandatory prerequisites, and Professional does not require holding the Foundations credential.

## Who can take the Claude Certified Architect Professional exam

Registration needs a partner email from a Claude Partner Network company, and like every Claude exam you must be 18 or older with a government-issued photo ID, in a country where the exam is offered ([who can take a Claude certification exam](https://certmadeeasy.com/claude-certification#who)). Beyond those rules, Anthropic recommends, but does not require:

- A foundation in software-engineering best practice
- 3 years or more in systems architecture or platform engineering
- 6 months or more running Claude or a similar LLM system in production
- Delivering end-to-end systems from discovery through to operation

The credential is awarded on exam performance alone. The guide says the exam is not intended for entry-level developers, casual users, or roles limited to prompt writing without wider system design responsibility. A pass counts toward your company's Claude Partner Network tier.

## CCAR-P exam domains and weights (the syllabus)

The weights are Anthropic's, the approximate share of scored items; it publishes no question counts per domain.

Anthropic updates this exam's content on 7 December 2026, and the new exam guide is due on 17 November 2026 ([Pearson VUE](https://home.pearsonvue.com/anthropic)). The domains and weights below are from the current guide; we will update them when the new one is out.

### Integration

19%

The heaviest domain. Capability bloat in tool and agent configuration, authentication and authorisation gaps, accuracy against latency, observability at scale, RAG design and retrieval, and choosing between MCP, API or CLI, and agent-to-agent connections. Its task statements cover which identity each request runs as, whether to retrieve at all, and what to load up front versus discover as needed.

### Solution design and architecture

17%

Turning business problems into Claude solutions, end-to-end architectures with feedback loops, choosing workflow, agentic or augmented-LLM patterns, multi-agent design, and the business value pillars (efficiency, transformation, productivity, cost, performance SLAs). Its task statements start a step earlier: whether the problem needs an LLM at all, and which value pillar justifies the design's cost and latency.

### Evaluation, testing and optimisation

16%

Evaluation metrics and datasets, A/B testing, diagnosing prompt failures, hallucinations and model mismatch, tuning tokens, latency and cost, and monitoring in production. Its task statements cover agreeing measurable success criteria before building, judging when an offline eval is enough, and telling from transcripts which layer failed.

### Governance, safety and risk management

14%

Guardrails and safety controls, failure modes of LLM systems, human-in-the-loop validation, regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA and FedRAMP, and bias, fairness and transparency. Its task statements cover where a person must sign off before an output goes out or acts, and which Claude features a client's data arrangement allows.

### Stakeholder communication and lifecycle management

14%

Structured discovery and requirements, explaining architectural trade-offs, stakeholder feedback and SLAs, documentation, and each lifecycle phase from discovery to iteration. Its task statements cover what to learn about the current human process first, what availability you can actually promise, and what a handoff must contain.

### Claude models, prompting and context engineering

13%

Choosing a Claude model on trade-offs, system prompts and guardrails, zero-shot, few-shot and chain-of-thought prompting, context and token management, and prompt reuse through caching, modular prompts and Skills. Its task statements cover weighing cost against quality: the cheapest model and effort that clears the bar, and when examples or more context earn their tokens.

### Developer productivity and operational enablement

7%

Configuring Claude tools such as Claude Code for teams, improving developer workflows with AI tooling, and supporting debugging and operational issues. Its task statements cover which settings layer actually enforces a team policy, and checking which configuration is in effect before blaming the model.

## Claude Certified Architect Professional exam cost

The CCAR-P exam costs $175 per attempt at list price, and a retake costs the full fee again. Select and Preferred partners get 50% off at checkout, and Global Premier partners 100% off until 31 December 2026. Renewing on time is free. [All four Claude certification fees and partner discounts](https://certmadeeasy.com/claude-certification#cost).

## How to register for CCAR-P

You sign in to the Anthropic Partner Academy with your company's partner email, pay there, and then book a Pearson VUE slot, online with a proctor or at a test centre. You need to be 18 or older with a government-issued ID, and online testing isn't open to every country's ID. After a fail you wait 14, 30 and 90 days before a retake (after the first, second and third fail), and you get at most 4 attempts per exam in a rolling 12 months. [How to register, step by step](https://certmadeeasy.com/claude-certification#register).

## How hard is CCAR-P?

Anthropic publishes no pass rate. It presents Professional as the step after Foundations, and the questions lean on judgement across a whole system.

### You run Claude systems in production

Expect trade-offs between accuracy, latency and cost, security and governance, and explaining those choices to stakeholders: the work you already do.

### You haven’t run an LLM system in production

The [Claude Certified Architect – Foundations exam](https://certmadeeasy.com/claude-certification/certified-architect) is the closer fit.

## CCAR-P study guide: how to prepare

If you already run Claude systems in production, this can take as little as a few days. Anthropic says there is no single required course and no resource guarantees a pass. Its own advice:

1. Step 1 Self-assess against every objective in Section 6 of the [official guide](https://everpath-course-content.s3-accelerate.amazonaws.com/instructor/6nizmqk8tpzpfjvt6qmmav7rh/public/1783542810/Claude+Certified+Architect+%E2%80%93+Professional+Exam+Guide.pdf).
2. Step 2 Know Anthropic’s docs on the Claude API, the models, prompting, MCP and Skills well.
3. Step 3 Ship at least one Claude system end to end, with retrieval, evals and monitoring in place.
4. Step 4 Practise the architecture calls: which model, which integration protocol, which security trade-off.
5. Step 5 Work through the three sample questions in Section 8 of the guide.

Anthropic also has a free Claude Certified Architect – Professional Prep Course of five courses on the [Partner Academy](https://anthropic-partners.skilljar.com/page/partner-certifications), for partners. Its public free courses are listed in [free Claude certificates vs Claude certifications](https://certmadeeasy.com/claude-certification#free).

## After you pass CCAR-P

The credential is valid for 12 months. On-time renewal is free: review what changed and complete an unproctored assessment on the Partner Academy. Anthropic may require a full retake instead if the exam content changes significantly. Passing earns a Credly badge.

## Practise for the CCAR-P

Exam-style questions for every CCAR-P domain, each with an explanation for every option, and timed 63\-question mock exams. 20 free questions, the first 5 without signing up. Anthropic has no official practice exam: the old one was retired in the move to Pearson VUE, so the sample questions in the exam guide are its only official practice.

## CCAR-P FAQ

### Is CCAR-P harder than CCAR-F?

Yes. Professional is the level above Foundations: Anthropic presents it as the next step ("Start at Foundations, then advance to Professional where available"), recommends at least 3 years of systems architecture and 6 months running Claude in production before it, and charges more, $175 against $125. CCAR-F asks whether you can build with Claude; CCAR-P asks whether you can own a whole Claude system, from discovery and integration to evaluation and governance. Anthropic publishes no pass rates, but on everything it does publish, CCAR-P is the harder exam.

### How long should I study for CCAR-P?

Anthropic publishes no study time. If you already run Claude systems in production, a few days of focused review against the guide may be enough. Allow one to three weeks around your job if parts of the guide are new to you. Self-assess against the guide’s objectives, practise your weakest domains, then take timed mock exams. If you have not yet run an LLM system in production, that experience is the gap, and no amount of study replaces it.
