## What's on the AIGP exam?

100 multiple-choice questions in 165 minutes. You pass at 300 on IAPP's 100 to 500 scale. The questions follow the [Body of Knowledge and Exam Blueprint](https://iapp.org/certify/aigp) version 2.1, which took effect on February 2, 2026. It has four domains:

| Domain | Questions |
|---|---|
| I. Foundations of AI governance | 16 to 20 |
| II. How laws, standards and frameworks apply to AI | 19 to 23 |
| III. Governing AI development | 21 to 25 |
| IV. Governing AI deployment and use | 21 to 25 |

IAPP publishes question ranges, not percentages, and they don't add up to exactly 100. Read them as a guide to where the weight sits. Domains III and IV carry the most questions, and both are about running an AI system through its life cycle.

Check the version of any practice exam you buy. Older AIGP material was written for a seven-domain exam that no longer exists.

## Where privacy people lose points

If you come from privacy or compliance, the law part of the exam feels familiar. That's the trap.

Existing privacy law is one sub-competency in the blueprint, worth 4 to 6 questions. The rest of Domain II covers IP, nondiscrimination, consumer protection, product liability, the EU AI Act risk tiers and standards like the NIST AI RMF and ISO 42001. Then come 42 to 50 questions on governing development and deployment: impact assessments, data lineage, bias testing, model cards, red teaming, drift, and when to switch a system off.

Practice questions show you which part is actually weak, and it's rarely the one you expect.

## How many practice questions do you need?

Enough to prove you can handle scenarios, and a raw count won't tell you that.

AIGP questions describe a situation and ask what a governance professional should do at that stage. The wrong options are usually real frameworks or real steps that belong somewhere else in the life cycle. Knowing the vocabulary gets you to two plausible answers. Knowing who is responsible, and when, gets you to one.

That's why we don't score you on plain accuracy. We built [our own readiness score](https://certmadeeasy.com/readiness) to tell you when you're actually ready.

## When are you ready to book?

The exam costs $799, or $649 for IAPP members. A retake is $625 for non-members, and you have to wait at least seven days before sitting it again. That's a lot of money to learn you weren't ready.

Before you book, sit at least one full timed mock. You get a little over a minute and a half per question, and scenario questions eat time, so find out how you pace before the real exam does it for you.

## How to use the questions

**Read every explanation, including on correct answers.** If you picked the right framework for the wrong reason, the explanation is the only place you'll find out.

**Count before you answer multi-select.** The stem tells you how many to pick, and there's no partial credit. One right answer plus one wrong answer scores zero.

**Save the timed mock exams for readiness checks.** They're scored against the real format.

**Then go back over what you got wrong.** Fix mistakes queues only the questions you missed, so the second pass is all gaps.

**Watch the weak domain.** If Domain III keeps dragging your readiness down, go back to it before you go back to the mock.

## FAQ

### Is there a free AIGP practice exam?

Yes. The [first 30 questions](https://certmadeeasy.com/catalog/set-iapp-aigp) are free, with no account. The full 239-question set is $24.99 one-time, which includes every explanation, the timed mock exam mode, Fix mistakes and the readiness score.

### Is there an AIGP practice exam PDF?

Yes. IAPP sells the [AIGP Practice Exam Digital](https://store.iapp.org/aigp-practice-exam-digital/), 100 questions with explanations in a PDF, for $60 ($50 for members). A PDF won't time you or show which domain is weak, so use it as a final check after practicing online.

### How many questions are on the AIGP exam?

100 multiple-choice questions in 165 minutes of testing time. Some are scenario-based, and some are multi-select with no partial credit. Seat time is about 180 minutes, because a 15-minute break sits at the midpoint.

### What is the passing score for the AIGP?

300 on a scale of 100 to 500. IAPP converts your raw number of correct answers to that scale. There's no per-domain minimum, and no question counts more than another.

### Are these questions written for the 2026 blueprint?

Yes. They follow version 2.1 and its four domains. Material built for the older seven-domain exam will send you studying the wrong structure.

### Do I need a CIPP before the AIGP?

No. IAPP lists no prerequisites. Privacy experience carries over to Domain II and to the impact assessments and vendor reviews in Domains III and IV. It runs out on model testing, monitoring and red teaming.

### How long is the AIGP valid?

Two years from the day after you pass. Keeping it takes 20 CPE hours per term plus a $250 maintenance fee, or an IAPP membership at $295 a year.
